"Away in An Airport" is a heartwarming Christmas musical filled with laughter, unforgettable characters, and the true spirit of the season.

When a powerful winter storm shuts down the airport, Captain Dash Dawson’s long-awaited Christmas at home is put on hold, leaving him—and a colorful group of stranded travelers—stuck together for the holidays. Among them are a surgeon racing to reach a child in need, two brothers desperate to spend one last Christmas with their dying brother, a very pregnant wife making a surprise visit, her Uber driver Miles, and Clara Clove, a lonely woman who has made the airport her Christmas home.

Under the watchful eye of no-nonsense security guard Frieda, these unlikely strangers discover friendship, compassion, and unexpected miracles. With beautiful music, heartfelt moments, and plenty of holiday humor, Away in An Airport is a joyful reminder that Christmas isn't about where you are—it's about the love, hope, and faith we share along the way.

About Us

At Star Theatre, we are dedicated to delivering live, high quality, family-friendly entertainment with a focus on meaningful storytelling.

This intimate, charming theatre seats 250 and was built in 1911 and opened to the public in 1912 as a silent movie house.

Academy Award Winner, Jimmy Stewart, would frequent the theatre as a teenager while he was a student at the Mercersburg Academy in the 1920's.

Fire damaged the theatre in the 1930's, after which a decorator from Philadelphia was called in to restore the damage. A massive renovation was done which included Art Deco light fixtures and flocked wallpaper, which remain in the theatre today. Through the years, Star Theatre has operated as a movie house and home to the Pennsylvania Opry.

Star Theatre Productions LLC is a small, family-owned business that currently owns and operates all aspects of this piece of Mercersburg history. They continue to renovate the building while maintaining it's historic integrity and greatly appreciate any donations to our renovation fund!
